THEORETICAL POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN THE SZTUL LABUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Birmingham, AL The Sztul Lab in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is recruiting two postdoctoral scholars to work at the interface of molecular, theoretical, and computational cell biology. Our lab’s research interests are in the regulation of membrane trafficking in health and disease, as reflected in these publications: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=sztul+e. We seek candidates to work on an integrated project funded through the NSF Award that spans two disciplines, with molecular and cell biological excellence within the Sztul Lab and computational and theoretical expertise within the Kawai Lab in the Department of Physics at UAB. Our project aims to develop mathematical models of vesicle formation. We combine dynamic live imaging and molecular perturbations of distinct subprocesses in ER-Golgi traffic with kinetic Monte Carlo simulation and stochastic differential equations to develop predictive models of vesicle coating. Such systems understanding of vesicle biogenesis based on the laws of physics is crucial for future manipulation in vivo and for building synthetic organelles and cells. The position requires a PhD and expertise (based on publication record) in Mathematical Modeling, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Simulations of Dynamic Systems, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Biophysics or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience in one or more programming languages and in a variety of modeling methods. Complementary expertise in cell and/or molecular biology also will be helpful. The optimal candidate will be highly-motivated and have excellent communication skills and a strong publication record. Positions will begin in summer/autumn 2019. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience. Preferred candidates will be recent graduates or within 2 years of postdoc training Applications must be submitted to [email protected]. A complete application should include a cover letter detailing experience and research interests, a current CV, and contact information for at least two professional references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. |
EXPERIMENTAL POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN THE SZTUL LABDepartment of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, USA Two post-doctoral positions are available immediately to investigate molecular mechanisms of membrane traffic. We are using genetic, molecular, imaging and cell biological approaches to define signaling cascades that spatially and temporally restrict membrane flow through the secretory pathway. For previous research see: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=sztul+e. The ideal applicants should have good command of English and experience in molecular and cell biology. Additional experience in protein purification, biophysical approaches and/or crystallography would be beneficial. We offer a very competitive salary and health coverage. Please email a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of 2 references to:
